The Donation Process

Choosing to donate your dog’s semen is an important step in preserving your breed’s future. The following steps outline what a typical AKC PPB donation process may look like.

The first step will be looking at our website, as many questions may be answered in our Frequently Asked Questions, and review our detailed Donor Application form. If you have additional questions, you are encouraged to contact us. Many owners have done prior research and are comfortable forgoing this component. If you need additional information, please reach out!

Next, we ask that you download, complete, and return the Donor Application form and additional relevant documents and photos via email to contact@akcppb.org or mail to AKC Purebred Preservation Bank, 8051 Arco Corporate Drive, Raleigh, NC 27617. It is a very thorough form and we ask that all questions are answered to the best of your ability. Depending on the age of your dog’s stored semen, we understand some questions may be challenging or even impossible to answer.

Once the application is received by AKC PPB staff, donors will receive an email verifying receipt. AKC PPB staff may contact you for additional or clarifying information. The completed application will be reviewed by the AKC PPB Gift Review Committee, comprised of three AKC PPB Board Members, for a final decision. The Committee may have questions or require further documentation prior to their decision, so owners should expect contact from AKC PPB Staff throughout the process.

Donors will receive notification of either acceptance or denial.

AKC PPB staff will complete the process for a legal agreement for accepted donations which will transfer the ownership of the frozen semen from the donor to AKC PPB. Once the Donation Acceptance Agreement is complete, the donor will receive notification requesting their signature on the agreement.

Upon execution of the Donation Acceptance Agreement, donors are asked to reach out to the storage facility to complete the facility’s required protocol for their records that will transfer ownership of the frozen semen, and the responsibility for continued payment of storage fees, from the donor to AKC PPB. This last step will conclude the donor’s portion of the process!
